Quattro de Mayo is a national celebration of comedian culture
The holiday was founded in Mexico, 1862, before the Battle of Puebla. The Mexican troops, certain that the better equipped and twice as large French army would annihilate them the next day, spent the 4th of May celebrating life. Attempting to bring laughter to the morose camp, Mexican General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín discovered Improvisational Comedy, encouraging his soldiers to let loose and enjoy the last day of their lives. The troop became the first improv comedy troupe, accepting death and fearing nothing. The men decided that any survivors would carry on the lively spirit of the Quattro de Mayo.
The next day the Mexicans miraculously defeated the French and Cinco de Mayo was celebrated in commemoration of the Battle of Pueblo. No one cared about Quattro anymore, but experts say the victory can be attributed to the soldier's high spirits and the power of comedy...
Okay so it's debatable whether or not that's historically accurate, but why not celebrate the holiday? Let's have an evening devoted to laughter!
