Lyndsay (Schaeffer) Korbylo
Where are you now?
I was in Mixed Signals from it's founding (I was one of the co-founders) until I graduated in 1999. After graduation I spent five years in school in Cincinnati and then three years in Louisville, Kentucky. I now live in Flemington, NJ with my husband, whom I picked up in Kentucky. I have a Ph.D. in microbioiogy and am currently a research scientist at Colgate-Palmolive working in oral care research.
Although I don't find the time for improv any more, I do have a black belt in aikido and have a lot of people convinced that I know what I'm doing. If that's not improv, I don't know what is.
What do you miss most about being in The Mixed Signals?
What I miss most about Mixed Signals was being able to "play" once a week with a great group of people. Also, the times we spent on the road, as tough as they were, are some of my most fun college memories.
What do you miss least about being in The Mixed Signals?
What I miss least is a week and a half crammed into the back seat of a Saturn listening to the same Charlie Parker tape over and over again on those road trips.
Advice for current and future members:
My advice to current and future Mixed Signals is to enjoy this time and freedom to experiment and discover yourself through improv. Remember, even if you don't plan to do this for a living, these are skills that you will use every day for the rest of your life.
